Let me not write
To win fortune and fame.
Let me not write
To get praise for my name.
Let me not write
To bring pain or hurt.
Let me not write
Things that are dirt.

INSTEAD

Let me write
Of my experiences each day.
Let me write
About my sweet nephew, Che.
Let me write
Of my joys as a wife.
Let me write
Of the happiness in my life.

~*~

Let me not write
Things that would cause me shame.
Let me not write
Poems that would lay any blame.
Let me not write
Things that would hurt my friend.
Let me not write
Poems that would make me pretend.

INSTEAD

Let me write
To ease the pain in my heart.
Let me write
To keep up with my poetic art.
Let me write
To bring a smile on one’s face.
Let me write
At my favourite place…
