Yep, and this is also just the end of Chapter 1 of my little 1988 book. But that's enough on that theme and I've already tossed out many as good poetry but somewhat embarrassingly personal on looking back.
The contrast: the very old, the child (even a doll upside down on her head!) and the rest of us somewhere "inbetween"
I'll still publish my little book to clear the air but only post any others that really move me. You've got to remember all this time I've been spending mornings in my piano studio recording and composing for 4 hours each morning (so poetry is not my main iron in the fire.) Sessions are going good (please see a new article by me about all that and my upcoming CD: IN MEMORY ONLY) Thanks for your reviews.

CHILDHOOD’S END
I want to go back in time to
A world that was simple and clean
To live again among the shadows of a child’s dream.
I want to come running in from my own backyard
And wrap myself in my loving mother’s arms,
There I used to play and in her was my best friend,
But now it won’t seem to be again
For this is surely “childhood’s end.”
CHORUS: Childhood’s end is a sky without a rainbow
But where one dream ends another must grow
Every color that was locked away in the book of my mind
In memories of childhood I can always find.
That lightening flash is a memory illumed in the darkness
As it seems my joy has washed away with the rain
All the while my heart aches with a strange longing pain.
I wanted assurance that something lasts,
That all we do does not just pass –
For in photographs and memories, time like a specter sends
The message that this is surely “childhood’s end.”
Repeat CHORUS:
Your words reach deeply into my soul and echo there, Michael. Childhood is a theme about which I have written several times; probably because I had to "grow up" too quickly. Oddly, I am often told by many that I never did grow up. I find your theme to be not unlike the one that I have expressed in my poem, "Otherplace" and several others posted here. Thank you for sharing this gift friend. Love and best wishes,
Very nice Michael, and emotional as well. Love the photo. Young and old, we will all be there someday--that is us who are in the middle. And a reminder of those who raised us--especially mom.
...wonderful write Michael...a prism of poetry to create a new rainbow of hope...where black and white pictures...become the colors of forever...even though there be somtimes rain.
John
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.

How true, and the older I get, the more I find myself gazing at old childhood photos, and remembering many of 'those good old days.'
Be always safe,
