Writing Poetry

This poetry writing is
            Outside my comfort zone.
When I began, I felt alone.
My thoughts were so garbled.
I thought my head would spin.

To me, poets had a tremendous gift.
They had power to make a heart cry or make it lift.
How could I compare?
Yet, I truly wanted to share.

To put them down on paper
            Was through God’s inspiration,
            And an incredible amount of perspiration.
He gently coaxed the words from my head.
            I think He likes what He’s read.

As I’ve written more
            I’ve gotten the hang of the score.
Now, as I sit down to write,
            I’m still outside my comfort zone.
It matters not what I feel,
            Because what I write is real.

The joy in writing poetry
            Is in the telling of the story.
To God the Father up above,
            I give all glory!
