RAINBOWS
By Kathy Armijo

How do you describe a rainbow?
Is it the colors?
Is it the rain that precedes its appearance?
Or, is it simply its wonderment and beauty?

The rainbow is a metaphor for life.
First, you get the rain
- Your pain.
Sometimes the rain is a deluge.
Sometimes the rain is gentle.
Yet, the rain is refreshing.
It is what sustains life.

The fragrance of rain hitting the earth is invigorating.
The sounds are melodic.
The lightening is an incredible display of sound and light.
Why would you think of this as a fright?

Life parallels each aspect of rain.
Life can be turbulent.
Life can be gentle.
Life can be refreshing.
Life can be sweet.

Then, comes the rainbow.
There is stillness and quiet.
There is beauty.
There is expectation.
The rainbow reminds us of the beauty of our life.

Kathy,
I love this poem, it is so uplifting and "real". I also see a rainbow as hope and joyful and energy colors.

After the rain, there comes a breeze that needs no poetry--
The scent alone reminds us all
why rain was meant to be.(one of my first poems ever)
I love, love, love the rain. It rains because God secretly loves me best--no offence. And I love rainbows too. Each drop hued with the love of God. There are probably rainbows because God loves you best too! God bless you, Kathy. --Charlie

I agree with Jerry. Glory and beauty and some how I felt serene in the middle of the rain. Excellent. Liz

You took the rainbow and gave it its glory in words, just as it gives us its glory in sight . . .

I keep reading poems and they are all about the rain! What's going on?
It's been raining here for days. Dark clouds above my head.
I wish I could see a beautiful rainbow...
A wonderful picture. A universal symbol.

Bravo Kathy and you are so right, I believe that my life is what I make it and it is as beautiful as that rainbow that Steve captured in that wonderful picture above. So much beauty in both your words and the pic, they compliment each other. Thank you for sharing.
