a soldier ant walked across my hand
at breakfast today sitting at the dining table
oh no you don’t I said to it
and promptly got the raid

I sprayed the perimeter of the house
and stopped for just a moment
to pick the spent dried up leaves
off of a potted star jasmine

just then a black widow appeared
apparently I’d disturbed her nest
she was large and quick
and dangling in an intricate web

well, I don’t like spiders
and I usually just let them be
but today was different
so I raided her too with the spray

ran some errands and grocery shopped
I followed a tee shirt into a store stating
“it’s not how good you are
it’s how bad you want it”

I thought about sex
wouldn’t you?
and I snickered

unpacked the car
with a month’s worth of food
then walked two blocks
to the HOA pool

I dived into the brisk cool water
then asked someone
what happened to the heater
they replied its broken

no matter to me
the outside air is 96 degrees
and I swam several laps

back at the house
I prepare my dinner
sushi and carrot juice
and wash a load of clothes

I’d rented some movies
cause its Friday night
and I didn’t make any plans
so I’ll just be my on my own

“Phantom of the Opera”
and “National Treasure”
maybe I’ll make some popcorn
and enjoy a glass of wine

and that’s it for me
just keeping it real
living one day at a time

Living one day at a time is about all any of us can do, Debby - and I liked both of those movies.

poor little spider, just think, she helped with the ants.

what did she do that you wouldn't have?

i liked how you framed little, seemingly insignificant events and strung them together with garland perspective. i liked it.

That's the kind of day that can be most therapeutic I think. Keep it real. That's what I am doing right now. And not thinking too much about tomorrow. Love this write of yours, Debby. Thank you for sharing it. Love and peace to you. Regis
