memorial birthday

22 yrs ago my daughter was born on memorial day, of course my doctor took the weekend off...no one expected complications...so I honor memorial day in multiple ways...death and birth

grandfather served in WWII

and daddy in Korea

i have an ex that achieved vietnam

and a step son completed Irac/Iran

and I know these men all

did what they did  in service

to a country, but the reason

I remember this day

is of a different season

a difficult labor gone awry

and like soldiers who put their

lives on the line

a mother will do the same

giving away her very own life

to birth her baby and give it breath

death and life theatres of war

blood, endurance, and survival

veterans could multiply

my  hours of labor by their years

i suppose we will never

really comprehend the personal fears

each of us precedes from beginning to end

so every year they memorial parade

in honor of those who didn't make it

I can say
“happy birthday to my baby”

to the one that did

You have penned a meaningful comparison, Debby. I am happy that the outcome was fine regarding your "baby" who is now all grown up. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace to you,

Regis

There is nothing in this world that compares to a thankful heart Debby, except the pleasure one receives from a thankful heart honestly expressed. A beautiful sentiment in this write. I am sure that your daughter is quite proud of her Mommy.

Blessings ...
Richard

FABULOUS!!!! And WHAT a Memorial indeed! Somehow reminds me of the film Armageddon (sorry to be kitsch!) where the hero and heroine are caught up in love-making before Ben Affleck goes off to deal with the impending meteorite that threatens earth's safety... She says: "Baby... do you think there are others who are doing this very thing right now"... and HE says, "Well, I hope so... or what it is we're trying to save??...".... Then Aerosmith and "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" strikes up, and then I'm crying and then... what the hell am I going on about??? HAPPY BIRTHDAY and what a transformation from a day of mourning into a day of joy... Think my ramble is to say... those who put their lives on the line did so for JUST this reason... to perpetuate the beauty, innocent freedoms and rights to the breath and joys of life! This just got me plum carried away, I is so enthusiastic... Congratulations... you BOTH made it... I sure am glad. LOLOL Kate xx

Every home should have someone, even if not family to remind them of him or her on Memorial Day, because all are touched by a soldier.

Makes one think about the many similiarities there seems to be in life...
this truly is an honorable way to always remember the ones who didn't make it!
Happy Birthday to your baby~ even though she's 22!
Love and Peace~

Very heartfelt write and God had his reasons for your difficult birth on a day set aside to remember the brave and the fallen. Well done Debby.
