Poem Artwork

the beam came through the window
and laid itself on the corner of the carpet
without a word it beckoned my being
arriving like a god-send into the crisp
of winter air, snow flurries, and
sporadic overcast sky
winter days always chilled my hands
and cheeks, stiffened joints, and
achy knees
I sat
on the floor upon the carpet
where the sunbeam lay
and felt its ray wide and warm
gently laying me back
to fully embrace its comfort
I readily surrendered
and dreamt
of a warm sandy beach
gloriously serene
a gentle breeze, clear sky
I hear young ones
playing in the surf
they are talking to dolphins
then a gull flies over and i
comprehend what it says
I’m happy
opening my eyes
the sun beam has moved
working its way
through the windows
and across the room
seemingly settling
upon your shoulders
and casting an aura glow
about your crown
you look good in the light
comfortably soothing
to my soul
on the floor
I stretch then roll
closer to your direction

This is really beautiful. It takes me to moments when I, too, have relished the sun's rays through frosted windows while I closed my eyes and imagined warmer days and spring peepers. There's such a sense of comfort and coziness to this poem.

Great personification at work here, Debby. Seems that cheeky little sunbeam had arrived early for Valentine's! :)) The first sign of his dealings with me at this time of the year is to tweak the corners of my lips into an upward direction and - hey presto!! - I'm smiling! And he's definitely the best masseur that I know... And YEYEY!!! We're now past the shortest day, so it's all opening up from here... I count the minutes, almost. Love the form you have chosen... it breathes and has a natural relaxant about it somehow... must be the way the lines spill and pull apart... like teasing out those achey muscles! Much life and light to you this New Year, Debby. Thank you, Kate xx

Ohhh this poem caresses the heart like a warm breeze that flows in the window barely touching bare skin like a dream.

I love winter time; just wish it would stay colder longer, and wish we'd get more in the way of snow; doesn't snow much here in Texas! (At least where WE'RE at!) Very well penned; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

A most beautifully imaged write, Debby, that brings all the senses into play: especially loved "sporadic overcast skies." That was ours, today. Looked just like the photograph! :) Wonderful capture; you bring serenity and warmth in these lines.

(((HUGS))) and love, and Happy New Year,

Karla.
