I never know what category to put my stories in so poetry is as good as anything.
Opportunity presents itself
more often when you have
the luxury to look for it.
If you have a shit ton
of money and a lot of loose
time, looking out for
the interests of others
is a good way to make sure
everyone
knows what you look like.
But when you have nothing
it is hard to give another
part of that nothing that
you are trying to maintain.
It does happen.
You can see it on
the bus when a factory
worker helps a mother on
with her stroller,
You can see it when
a cashier smiles just
to let you know you
still belong.
You can see it when
a poor man shouts at
the distress of another's
child.
You can see it when
a hand is stretched
to a person that
can't remember the
last time they deserved
that hand.
It's schmaltzy
and stupid to think
and expect such things
from ordinary people
