Poem Artwork

I asked my goldfish one day:
So…
What is it like to be inside the fish bowl?

It didn’t answer me
but stuck out its eyes at me instead
as if it was surprised that
I would even ask such a stupid question.
It turned its head away from me
gills flapping madly.

I understood its message -
Just because it’s in my fish bowl,
and I’ve put it there
and feed it daily,
and watch it grow
but I still don’t own its life.

Without even saying a word
it turned away from me.
Its ass, along with its tail,
flapping from side to side at me,
as if to say -
Leave me alone!

Reminds me of the cat I used to have. Freedom comes in many forms. My cat chose to ignore me.

Actually, this poem provokes thought, and I like the way you personified the goldfish. Nicely done, Sandie. Love and best wishes to you,

An interesting thought - how would we feel inside that bowl? But perhaps we are all in a bowl of our own.

Was that fish taunting you or begging you? :-)

I think you've got my point, Roseline! Even the goldfish has a mind of its own. You just can't will it to entertain you each time you need to be entertained in the manner you want it to entertain you. The life belongs to the goldfish itself, and does not belong to us.
