Sometimes you just can't sleep

I shot out of bed at three in the morning
Jarred from my sleep, wide awake without warning

I sat and I listened for any strange sound
For some sort of clue, but no clue was found

I strolled through the house, with oh-so-much care
Just to make sure that no one was there

Alone in the house with no action to take
I should go back to bed but I'm wide awake

I make some warm milk to aid in my sleep
even though I haven't slept in a week

I sit down at the table to sip on my brew
and I'll go to bed, as soon as I'm through

But all of a sudden it’s daylight outside
I rise from my chair, my mouth open wide

Cold milk in the cup; the cup still in my hand
This isn't the way that I had this planned

I stand there exploring my minds empty crater
The clock on the wall says it’s four hours later

I stand in the kitchen just scratching my head
I’m too tired for this but I can't go to bed!
