You and I have come to that time
Where you think that I am in your way.
You impatiently push me aside,
More and more with each passing day.

You no longer run carelessly.
Determination is in your stride.
Adulthood is well within your grasp.
My apron strings are tossed aside.

I have no power to hold you.
You have discovered your own self worth.
I tremble from the separation,
And the pain is worse than your birth.

Know that I want your happiness.
I wish it didn’t cut to the bone.
When you are out there, please remember,
You'll never be truly alone.

Think of me always with fondness,
Miss me at least once every day,
Know that my love will always be here,
But will never get in your way.

The terrible feelings of a mother when children grow up and become distant. It's a joy to see that they have become independent and strong, but it's hard to think that they are going to forget us... at least for a while. Probably until the day they have children too.

Greetings,

Axilea
