Powerful poem, in such a few short words. That is what I love about your poetry... it says so much... in so little...
Me thinks there is a little bit of all mothers in this poem... no matter what takes our little children away... be it death, divorce, choices, or age... and there is always that little bit of grieving that will be done, regardless of the reason.

This piece brought me to tears, such a powerful poem, somehow it reminded me of what the Chapman family must be going through loosing Little Maria

As I raised my children I often thought of this. It breaks my heart to think of others going through a loss. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, so many times I've thought of this. Those smudges start out small and low, then climb higher and higher until they disappear. In contemplating it, I have to bring myself back to the present moment or I head down "empty nest syndrome lane" and my daughter's only six!
Dawn...Loss is a never ending emotion, whether family or friends it is a memory that shelves itself within our hearts and souls...you bring forth this thought with an ever so clear display of that emotion from your pen...
Oh my how sad...you've captured an entire birth and death of a parents worst nightmare within a few lines! I can relate to this write with an empty nest feeling, for it only seems that a few years ago I was chasing two small children about the house and cleaning little fingerprints off the furniture...today they both have homes of their own and each a little one whom they have to run after and clean their fingerprints off their furniture. Happy that they have made it to this wonderful stage in their lives, but my husband and I have also entered a new stage in our lives...life has a wonderful cycle of events awaiting us. Enjoyed this thought provoking and profound write my friend!

FElt a lump in my throat when I read this, as grandparents our house actually has more toys (and in every room) than we had when our own kids were young and yes on every surface sooner or later you can find those little smudges that when we were young parents seemed so annoying but now as grandparents make us smile...funny isn't it how that works.
No one ever described the heartache that goes with the circle of life. Those tiny smudges can smear to nothingness or multiply to infinity. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
