Tempting Fate

Although I read the book many years ago, I watched the 1940 classic last night, Pride and Prejudice, starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier....sent my mind wandering...

Broken and worn like the rusted

hinges to a gate of an old back fence –

tired, thrown to and fro –

once open, now permanently closed,

in dire need of repair.

She guards her heart -  admittedly,

overly cautious, sometimes believing

she has used up her chances, often

wondering if love is worth the gamble,

the pain or the effort.

Yet, somehow, a glimmer of hope still

remains, and occasionally she smiles

in spite of herself, wondering if she

should one day tempt fate – for she

can almost swear she heard the God(s)

whisper, “All in due time.”

She guards her heart--admittedly, overly cautious: then you follow at the end with All in due time. You catch the situation of life well here Dawn when it comes to our hopes and dreams. Sometimes it's hard to wait on God, and then, we realize we weren't waiting on Him. It's as though we were a baby he was waiting on to take our first step. We were overly cautious when we were the ones waiting on the answer already put before us. Good perception..........Jerry

Dawn,
This is for Catherine, isn't it? and with the hint of the well-trodden, worn moors and the old gate...you've made it highly visual and resonant, and the woman's heart waiting for the right time, if it ever comes. Finely evoked.

Thoughts about those that loved and lost, thoughts also of those that loved and were never loved back. But the saddest of all is about those that never loved.

Dawn - These lines strike at the truth of love.

She guards her heart - admittedly,

overly cautious, sometimes believing

she has used up her chances, often

wondering if love is worth the gamble,

the pain or the effort.

When we close the gate too tightly for protection, we also imprison ourselves. Enjoyed as always. - David

This is lovely Dawn
Through the rust & the broken hinges
Love will open this closed gate
For love is what is permanent

"wondering if love is worth the gamble," / A thought that crosses many people's minds, Dawn / But we have no control over our emotion it seems, and each time we venture into the "love" area of our heart we think it is going to be different this time.

Truth is there is the perfect match out there for each of us, patience will give them the time to find us or us find them. We
lose in love because we accepted the wrong one, I know I did, but then I met the man I am married to now.
