A Baptism, of Sorts

My daughters and I spent our Christmas holidays in a little fishing village in Spain...these were my thoughts on New Year's Day...

The morning is cloudy and lackluster,

yet the water carries a light of its own

that draws me to ocean’s edge.

Gently, the air whispers with each

incoming wave that I am alive –

and I am thankful for the reminder.

I like the stillness of this moment, where one is deep in thought. Big decisions are made in moments like this. Great write, Dawn.

What a wonderful line, Dawn. This is just lovely and the idea of spending Christmas in a little village in Spain sounds so inviting.

You hit my weakness here. I was raised on the coast and the ocean sang it's song and gave me peace and hope in times when I was down. I enjoyed this and can relate.

Stay well and keep writing

A GOOD WORK - HOW GOOD IT IS TO BE BLESSED WITH A GIFT THAT 'DRAWS' THE STRENGTH AND ENCOURAGEMENT THAT ONE NEEDS...FROM EACH AND EVERY PLACE...WHEREVER...WE HAPPEN TO FIND OURSELVES. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS. LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I liked this alot. Water does seem to have a baptismal effect, a washing away of the heaviness of the land.

... an Epiphany for certain sure, Dawn! You are aptly named - I have always thought so! Reminds me also of a poem of yours about a swimmer, I think. Were you on Costa de la Luz by any chance? As the name suggests, the light is very special on that part of the Andalucian coastline, just over the narrow strait from Africa. Ahh me... now I'm dreaming! Happy New Year! xx

A beautiful reminder indeed.
I miss water in this world where everything is ice right now.
Seems baptism has to wait a while.

As Christine says, "so soothing" and uplifting, a soul that sees light and is drawn to it. Gentle and thoughtful, Dawn, this poem leaves me warm and grateful.

What a sweet, gentle poem but yet you successfully avoid the trap of sentimentality. This is what a love about poetry--being able to say so much with an economy of words. Great job, Dawn.

What will you do with the remainder of the reminder?
That is what this poem asks me.
Though I kinda smile at your pics, as for some reason I see a young Merrill Streep.
It seems Europe is your home. Tuscany is my dream place to visit and I do not know why!

The water carries a light of its own. I know this feeling, living on these isles, as it carries a light and a life and a voice, musical, of its own.
