A Love Song in Poetry - excerpt from a poetry collection
The Garden of the Gods
I remember as she left that morning
Smiling as I walked up to her steps
Placing a single white rose
And a white piece of paper that simply said
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
Mesmerized I watched my lady
As she leaned over picking up the rose
Smelling the sweetness of nectar
As she read
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
Watching her turn
Knowing exactly where she was going
My heart filled with joy
Seeing the smile crossing her face
Reaching our spot I stood to watch
How beautiful she was just standing there
Holding the rose
Not wanting the moment to ever end
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
I realized at that very moment
How truly blessed I am
For this life - for this love - for this lady
Not wanting this moment to ever end
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
As I stand her now holding this single white rose
And they lay my beautiful lady in the ground
I look down as this white piece of paper
That simply says
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
Tears steam my face
As I place that single white rose and
White piece of paper down with my beautiful lady
Not wanting this moment to ever end
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods
This is how
This is why we have spread our blanket
In a place called the
Garden of the Gods

Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
I lived near the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Your poem reminds me of another time and and another place.
Thanks,
