TIME

Time on his high horse

Rushes by

Herding me on,

Slow the pace, I plead

Time takes no heed

Time on his high horse

Sweeps us all aside

Like fallen leaves

And has no mercy

For our little lives

Nor is Time caring

That we are not yet done

In our strivings

And in our dreaming

Of youth regained

Gold cannot deflect

Time’s leading arrow

Nor can Love sway

Time’s relentless passing

Youth comes to Age

Ambition comes to nought

Power, too, is defeated

Kings and Beggars

To the same dust are fallen

To be forgotten

Through all the ages

In Time’s endless reaping

Time sure does have a power that we can't control,
Leaving us to melt into the waves of its flow. . .

It was time well spend reading this admonition, great depths, and great measage, in a well structured poem. Bravo! Jasmin Horst

Yes. And if it wasn't so we would need a much bigger planet. Good writing.

Very well done.
I will try to spend some of it wisely today.
I better hurry up if I'm to do that.

Your poem captures the relentless and remorseless march of time, it is the one thing that our technology has not been able to tame! I know that they say: 'you should grow old gracefully' but I confess, I lust for the days of my youth.

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
