Nothing moves us like our perceived pain of our own making
Knowing that one lives among many shadows and laments makes the pain
More bearable and in bearing it we become strengthened
In preparation for the next onslaught
Joy emerges through the dust of past memories
As fires that once warmed us now scorch our souls
And we wonder how heat can be white hot.
Denying that we worshipped other than God
We claim divine punishment for past indiscretions.
Not acknowledging the deity’s’ influence even when accepting
That we not God
Punish ourselves.
