Why I refuse to die just yet because I am too busy seeking answers.

©2006 M. Bennett Hooper

I love my country it is my birthplace and that of my most immediate ancestors.
I have no desire to live anywhere else.
Standing, sitting, walking, awakening in an era most barbaric
The powerless cry out from every corner
who are we to be the fatted calf
And why can’t we see that if we do not change we shall be eaten alive.

How can we justify bringing peace to others as we plunder their resources
And under employ their people through the purchase of cheap labor in sweatshops of the world.
How can the powers that be speak to the health needs of others as many of our hospitals close and the drug pushers raise the prices for medication as if there are no limits.
How dare our present elderly stick around resisting death by sparsity.

How can our people believe that truth is being spoken to power by leaders of most institutions who are bankrupting the future of our grandchildren’s children.
How can they discuss the sanctity of marriage
while raping the world.

How can I justify not screaming through useless tears as my anger grows daily
How can I abandon my true love of communication.
Who am I to question.
Who am I to care.

NO PEACE, NO TRUTH, NO JUSTICE, NO LOVE, NO BLESSING, NO MORE SLEEPING AMERICA.
How can this be justified on our watch.

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
