As I approach my seventieth year of life I finally accept the sculpture I have created. Amidst all of the worlds’ madness I can say that I am fairly happy. I am happy though I cannot change many things like stopping wars and the unbridled killings of men, women, and children. Horrors indeed but I cannot stop them How can I say these things with one breath and say that I’m happy in another? I can say it because I know the secret of peace which is love The love that many are afraid and too insecure to embrace because they have accepted hatred as a comfort zone While some of us opt out in the name of love and refuse to give hatred that much power. Who will leave the most priceless legacy the most coveted inheritance? The lovers or the haters? The choice is yours what will you leave And who will write your story?

Good article, and I applaud you for being comfortable in your own skin. Not everyone can say that, or hope to believe it, or work towards this.
Caring people forget that they are not here to save the world, and get caught up in causes. It all begins in the home, what we teach as values. Sadly, that is where the problem is, not with governments, or crime or any other crutch we lean on. It is what is being taught in the home and not allowed to be taught in the school system. All the religions in the world, and all the prayers in the world will not cure what man refuses to face. Prejudice, hate, anger, love, blame, honor, integrity, responsibility, irresponsibility...all are taught. They are learned. The home is also where we solve the problems.
I too am content...but I still have a lot to say and do. (smooch) The thing to be proud of is that you did the best you could do (and still can do), and you strived to be the best you could be.
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.

It is always good to know, at all times, where we stand, and who we are, and what we are actually capable of doing.
Congratulations on your upcoming birthday!
