Surrounding tissues rend themselves as the dance of life begins
Pin piercing thrusts against an ever relenting tomb seem fruitless
In the struggle but it continues.
Folding slowly away from subterranean passages moving ever stealthily upwards it emerges cool to the touch and whole
Enmeshing itself in the new environment it is limited to gliding
In a world where everything has wings.
Lacking joy upon hearing birdsong or the kiss of a silver trout it flees constantly from a life filled with adversity.
Knowing no God, no savior and no redemption it dies a thousand times
Realizing in each shadow walk that death is the price of life
Plopping neatly into the mouth of yon beautiful fish
I pity only momentarily the earthworm.
