Hummmmm

C.2003 M. Bennett Hooper

Big business in America which has achieved global status is perhaps the last bastion of honesty existent in American Society.
B.B. is more than a blues singing guitar player.
Big business is truly king and cares little about international man made borders.

B.B. is single minded and totally dedicated to its’ existence and now transcends control by corporate executives who seek to destroy its’ employers by creating Capt. Kidd’s who steal treasures without having ample time to hide them.

B.B. creates a new language and plays a familiar melody called cooking the books as lowly and
mid-level workers wonder why hasty meetings are called followed by meaningless memorandums and bosses who go on alleged working seminars in countries which allow offshore banking.

B.B. is king and its’ true religious belief is in its’ profaning of, “In God we Trust.”.
The lion went to the middle east.
The tin man has a heart condition.
The scarecrow is scaring everyone.
And B. B. is buying the government.

Shall I stay in OZ, of course I shall after all I have a vested interest in OZ.
Kansas never was home and my dog’s name is Zeus.
The band plays on and it is after all time for the appearance of a true wizard.
2004 approaches, who will become the wizard?
I want to as Dorothy see the wizard.

Will Arnold challenge the 300 or so Democrats who want to be the wizard or will King George return? The red coats are everywhere, Paul Revere is riding up in a Hummer,
And gasoline will hit $.2.50 per gallon by next years end.

Think not?
I have a bicycle I can’t ride and broken roller skates,
Sled dogs in the south are few and far between.
Is anyone else concerned about global warming?
Are we not an endangered species?
What happens when we can find no batteries or candles
And stores sell out of bottled water?

My guess is that there are many possible political/economic systems that those of us who complain about capitalism would complain about just as loudly, if such complaints were allowed under those systems. Just a thought.
Best regards,
Leland

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
