I Will Meet Forever (in a Lavender-Blue Sweater)

I saw the colors for a wrap
in the early eve sky-gone
bluetopurpletoblue,
in a smear of clouds.

Were I to capture this,
between needles,
careful stitch by stitch,
I’d have something there.

It would remind me of this day,
it could hold tomorrow,
it might be-still my heart
it may promise warmth.

Or a storm could brew,
wiping these smiling colors
clear off my saved face,
leaving me cold again. 

I must believe in what I see,
first glance only chance,
holding it all against the odds,
never thinking twice about it.

I need to walk boldly
pale blue-lavender chest,
colors dripping down my sleeves,
bringing me warmth past my knees.

Is this what it is like,
to see the day once not twice,
realizing “as is” can be
as good as forever in a moment?
