LIfe, No Longer a Game of Keep-Away
In my dreams ...
the house is set to fire,
the cats have run away again,
the car will not drive fast enough,
and my bike has no steering control.
I can't get anywhere near where I am going ... fast enough.
When I get there ...
there is nothing but smoke and ash,
the marsh grass refuses to release the cats,
my car lies lethargic along some dead-end street,
my bike crippled-up on flat tires and bent kickstand.
Nowhere near in the nick of time ... I missed by a longshot.
You say ...
It's just a dream; it's really all "for keeps,"
the world is open to us, does not gobble cats,
the car just needs an oil change, tune and lube,
the bike remains in balance, firm, full pedal metal.
Joy is far more to keep now ... little death toll complete.
.... I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be. -Douglas Adams
