If we didn't live adventurously, plucking the wild goat by the beard, and trembling over precipices, we should never be depressed, I've no doubt; but already should be faded, fatalistic and aged. -Virginia Woolf

Poem Artwork

this crazy misery

this crazy misery,
i let it infect my soul;
i let it steal from me.

in turn, i robbed my children,
alienated my family,
sacrificed my friends,
trialed my lover,
nearly lost my career
and forgot my passion.

this crazy misery,
i let it infect my soul;
i let it get to me.

in turn, i tried to defy it,
my mind spinning,
only in circles,
upon circles,
upon no end,
circling back again.

this crazy misery,
i let it infect my soul;
i let it become me.

in turn, i finally cried
with want and need
for a soul's salvation,
seeking advice
and consolation,
and a bit more time.

this crazy misery,
i let it infect my soul;
i will not let it be.

in turn,
the circle widens,
options have appeared,
this ring not a noose
but future offered
at every twist and curve.

this crazy misery,
i let it infect my soul,
but it has released me.

I really like this. You express so well the human condition in most of us, especially writers. And I like the optimistic turn at the end (you're better than me, for I would remain pessimistic, and being continually pessismistic is not a good thing)
