Everyone around me at the time
tried to warn me about this
but I didn't listen and now I'm here--
a place I don't want to be.
They warned me not to change myself for her
but I did.
They warned me not to change my religion
but I did.
Some of them even disowned me
but I didn't care.
I thought I was doing it all
because it was the right thing.
I couldn't read my subconscious
and it deceived me.
Yes, it utterly decieved me
because I wanted to be deceived.
Now I find myself with a peculiar life
because I changed.
I have obligations in my new religion
but I don't want them.
I don't have a whole lot of friends
and I do care now.
I thought I was doing it all
because it was the right thing.
Now I know that I did it all
for the girl that I married.

Great write! It is so true for many of us. The options and choices we make we think are for the right reason and it still remains right if you find happiness in it. But if it does not, then you must seek your own comfort level within first before anything else. Change is always good if it is a conscious and well intended one but not if you will be unhappy later. It will only serve to undermine what you have.

This is a very deep poem. Changing for love can be Heaven or Hell but if the change isn't the real us, it will start to feel like prison. "To thine own self be true" or you will wake up one day and have no idea who you are, and when that happens you will lose the most important part of love, being loved for yourself, your real self and not someone else's image you have conformed to.

We change ourselves for several reasons. Many won't change a thing and it's very stressful to a marriage.

The most worthy change of all is to change for the one we love. I APPLAUD YOU!!!!!

You are wonderful!!!!!

Very powerful but you got to hang around for sometime because maybe it all seems strange coz it's a new religion for you. Maybe you still admiring and adopting it when you get to know it deeper. So don't run away from it...embrace it and it will embrace you. :)
