Small pond, engulfed in algae
with multitudes of trees surrounding it.
Within it ducks wade here and there
while on the left, a trickle quietly falls,
through a crack in the stone dam wall.
Here, a picnic table peacefully sits
under the shade of a tall old oak.
Behind the table is gracefully perched
the old changing room cabin.
On the far bank the hill rises,
gently up, and up to the summit.
Behind, the hill recedes sharply
into cool groves of old redwood giants.
Even farther down rests the valley
with orderly vineyards, and sparse fruit tree groves.
The air is still and the sun is shaded
while a light breeze combs the tree tops,
around this small pond, engulfed in algae.
-A favorite place of mine to go to write when home.
South Baltimore serves as the backdrop for this gripping story of three brothers leading very different lives but joined forever by the secrets of a painful family past.
The deep-dive literary meditations presented as stories, poems, and essays in The American Poet Who Went Home Again, A Mosaic of My Soul at Work, have captivated and inspired readers ever since its first paperback publication in 2008.
For about a third of the way through this
I'd swear you have been to my favorite spot near home. Charming write. Vicky
