This one is dedicated to Gwen who I hope is still cooking and doing well there at her kitchen. I was privileged to visit her restaurant three years ago on a camping trip and was hungry one morning and was recommended Gwen's and I am forever grateful for the experience.

Gwen's Kitchen is the place to go
if you find yourself in Lewisburg, West Virginia
and are craving a home cooked breakfast.

Saunter on up to the kitchen door
and tell Gwen what you want--
whatever you want--one egg, two eggs, or a dozen--you've got it.
A couple pieces of toast, a handful of bacon--
when I say whatever, I mean whatever.
If you order a little bit of food
she'll probably ask you if you're sure.
Because, if you're a strapping young man
she'll think you need more.
But anyway, she, or her grandaughter, will write down your order
and then just sit yourself down and rest.

While you're waiting you can eye Gwen's store--
all the cans, bigs cans, of everything you could imagine--
lined up neatly on shelves on the walls.
Help yourself to drinks if you want 'em,
they're in the old Fridgedaire.

You can't be in a rush when you come to Gwen's--
you wouldn't want to rush an old lady anyway.
Besides, her breakfasts are the best around
certainly worth the wait.

When you get your food you'll see it's just like home
only better.
Did I mention the biscuits?
Don't miss out on those.

When you're done and ready to pay
Gwen has the final say.
You see, there is no set prices exactly at Gwen's.
She'll look at you, tally up what you ordered in her head,
and then tell her grandaughter the score.
Don't worry though,
Gwen's prices are reasonable--
a good breakfast could cost you merely three dollars.

So, with a full belly and a heavy pocketbook,
you'll probably leave Gwen's grinning
for the experience you just had.
So if you're ever in Lewisburg, West Virginia,
in the beautiful Greenbrier Valley,
just west of White Sulphur Springs
and the Alleghany Mountains
in the early morning
and you're looking for good grub,
stop on over to Gwen's Kitchen
right there on Main Street--
you won't regret you did.
