Whenever I am in Church I gaze around at all of the stained glass windows, view their color and beauty....After that morning service I spoke to my pastor about it and he said that when the early morning sun mixes with the swaying shadows of the trees that the sight reminds him of a colorful rotating kaliadascope....

I wouldn't call them "heaven sent," but the stained-glass windows in churches are some of the best artistry around. The way they take the light of day and seemed to magnify the colors in the images that nearly magical.

I recall visiting the Cologne Cathedral. It's massive interior was lit up almost entirely by stained-glass windows. Some of the windows higher up were original and were very beautiful. But those lower down, having been blown out by bombing during World War II by the allies, who are rather plain and pedantic mass-produced design. It made me sad to think that war destroys such ancient beauty because the winner has God on its side.
