My poem "A Day....July 4, 1962....Richmond, Virginia" is about being a 9 year old on vacation visiting relatives with my family and amusing myself on a rainy holiday.

My poem is in my book of poetry "The Journey Through My Life".

 "A DAY....JULY 4, 1962....RICHMOND, VIRGINIA"

It was the Fourth Of July

A day of patriotic celebration

Rain was falling from the sky

The adults had the TV on

JFK was on there speaking

At Independance Hall

Where the sun was shining

I was a nine year old fireball

And not paying attention

For I was very occupied

Building with my toys

My thought is that JFK was a great President and the unfortunate assassination was a time of very great sadness for out country. Yes I too did see Ruby shooting Oswald which was another event of sadness.

I missed it altogether. Even missed the assassination in 1963. But I did see Ruby shoot Oswald and that live event had a profound effect on the power of television to show us what is happening in real time.
