Where can I find the calm that I once knew?
The center of the circle…
where the fountains of my youth began to flow.

Days have passed from rainbow colors,
into the murky undertow of oceans…
where reason hides within the pool of salty tears.

Vague shadows shift without a form
behind the back of all my dreams…
as if the robes of my demise are merely ghosts.

Yet I push on through clouded notions,
wading deeper through denial…
hoping one day I will find the strength to swim.

The buzzards’ circle in the darkness,
through the wind and rain they sail…
their talons reaching to reclaim a wounded soul.

And then it comes,
the softest whisper
as I cling to its refrain…

The youthful smile and heart that reaches
for the stars with every beat…
my golden child,
my validation to believe in life again.
