Silent Screams

by Betty Jo Tucker — Read all 96 poems by Betty Jo Tucker

Edvard Munch's famous painting depicts how I have been feeling lately.

Saturday, August 10, 2019

Poem Artwork

Silent screaming all through my brain.

Do something now to stop the pain.

Blood spilled in every place we know.

Churches and stores and picture show.

Take action now before rough rage

and fear engulf the center stage.

Your imagery spills off the page! I feel the "pain" and see the pitiful shape this country is in. Great write!

Love ya!

You didn't have to use large print. Your words show a clear message that something has to be done. We are not at war in this country. And haven't been since the Wild West before 1900. We need to identify mental illness and approach it with therapy not isolation and ridicule. We need remove weapons of mass destruction from individuals who claim that they need them for personal protection via some misconstrued interpretation of what the Second Amendment really means. We need to tone down anger and angry rhetoric. It only leads to violence.

Perhaps we need to go so far as to amend the Second Amendment to make it more clear.

You are not alone, Betty, we all feel this, hear this, at some time or another. On the edge is noise, in your center is silence. Tap that and you will feel better.

It's devolving rapidly out there. The changes on every front (weather, political, society, and spiritual) at times seem incomprehensible. I hear ya, Betty. Regards... r
