Crossroads

by Betty Jo Tucker — Read all 96 poems by Betty Jo Tucker

The recent tragedy of George Floyd's murder cannot be forgotten. My poem below expresses my feelings about this atrocity and its aftermath.

CROSSROADS

by Betty Jo Tucker

We’re at crossroads again, my friend.

No one knows how all this will end.

A knee on neck to horrify

with no one left to unify.

This outrage spreads from town to town

in nation led by sinful clown.

A Bible to project power

fails to make the masses cower.

Two paths emerge for us to take.

Choosing low? A giant mistake.

Think well and pick the higher one.

Don’t let a change remain undone.

I appreciate the sediments in your poem. However, like most folks, I want action in form of real change. To me that's standardizing all police procedures when handling a person without a weapon. A small taser can bring one down without too much force. We live in an advanced society so lets use the best technology and never again put our hands or legs around another persons throat. PERIOD!

The real call to action. I am saddened when politicians think that the arts and theater are a "hotbed of communists." Thinking back what it took to stop Sen. McCarthy's witch hunt, it is time we have real civil rights where everyone, not colored by reactionary thinking.
