This work was the genesis of my poetry. Conceived when the impulse moved me to relate the special emotions I felt, poetically. When I was visiting Norfolk's Botanical Gardens and the rose garden specifically. One late spring day in 2004.

the scent of roses is pervasive

and sweet upon the nostrils

the aromas endlessly refreshed

by the gentleness of a soft breeze

warm and gently wafting across the skin

senses now in the rapture of arousal

serenity invades the deepest reaches of the soul

for  surely it has been caressed

by the hand of divine providence

look you no further for the essence of life

for you have found residence In this place

in this special and intimate moment

The epiphanic instant detailed and richly defined for us here, Jon! As you say, arousing of the intellect, the spirit and, perhaps above all, the senses and sensual. This is what it is to feel a moment of totally living; what it is to be alive. Somehow, all of life and purpose and being are held together in a crucible-moment such as this; where we have come from and where we are going welded, like an arrow in full flight. You have done well to articulate the often inexpressible. Deep speaks to deep. And, yes, here we feel intimate and deeply touched by what you are revealing. A lovely flow of consciousness writing that reminds me a little of Virginia Woolf. What a fabulous Genesis - Edenic, I'd say! :)) xx

How profound… to be able to so passionately experience and appreciate peace among one of creation’s beauties… through all the natural senses - to see, to smell, to touch, to feel - roses… I share your passion and adoration for all creation; what a beautiful, inspiring poem.

By the beauty of a rose we are taken in, yet not treated properly the thorns protect in defense. A fitting tribute.....

Be safe,
Karen
