Without mom, who would we be?

In the hazy shadows of dusk

She appears to me

Her torso arched forward

A puff of snowy egret, white, her  crown

A diminutive figure I know well

She shuffles in quick, short steps

Wobbly legs straining to stay upright

Four feet - eleven inches of courage

'Tis my mom

Rushing to the door to greet me

Beauty of youth erased from her face

Gaunt and frail

What time she has left

God only, privy to that

The familiar smile, "so glad to see you", welcome

Extended to one and all

At ninety-two, a spirit I know

With a form alien

A striking,  black haired beauty in youth

My faith in God, she tutored

Pearl Buck, Somerset Maugham her favorites

In literary matters

The family bible, her favorite read

Vanishing breed, indepemdent, lacking greed

Hard times, molded gentle folks

My God, thank you

For the mom you made me

Sweeter than homemade lemonade

Hard times, molded gentle folks ---> LOVe IT!
I miss my mom NOW, and I know it was HARD to get close when she was around, now I'm wishing I looked Past it! Her strength I gained!
That I will always know and appreciate, through all the BAD/Hard times my father put us all through!
Amazing strength and tenacity I was able to capture from her! Thank you for this sweet offering of a mOm's poem Jon!

I see why you couldn't wait until Mother's Day. My Mom was (and still is) the youngest, prettiest, most frugal, fun-loving, and best cook ever! Yours is a family legend you have immortalized here.

Thank you for writing and posting this recognition of you, "Mom."
Without one, we wouldn't be a'tall, I'm certain.
Having a good one is so wonderful for each who does.
Even for those who lost touch, or worse, they're special.
Your words remind me of someone who recntly wrote a glowing tribute to his mother. It ends with, "It's the least I can say for my creator." This is good, Jon. - Bill
