Hounds gotta run Anyway

Ont the run.

Four hounds baying on an August night

Flashlights bobbin like a lure with a bite

Tinder dry brush cracking 'neath runnin feet

Hell man, this ain't no late night track meet

Three broke out of prison cells

Gonna run 'till the hounds catch 'em

A bullet downs 'em, or they're free

That's the way it has gotta be

Two death row waiters, one lifer

Where else would they rather be

Bars, clubs and Winchesters are for real

This runnin away from prison's day to day

Makes you feel alive, it's the real deal

In the cell I'm gonna rot or fry

Out here on the run, I'm givin it a try

If I'm gonna say goodbye

Rather do it here on the run

Can't stand no more sittin 'round waitin to fry

Four walls and bars, kissed 'em bye

Hounds gotta run anyway

...perhaps behind bars...the hounds are already chasing one in dreams...until the dreams finds the reality of one being chased.
well found pen...with light coming from both sides.

This is great! One of those poems where you are drawn in by the visual, the excitement, and then understanding the rationale: ...can't stand no more sittin 'round waitin to fry... love it. Janice

Excellent visuals within this write Jon, reminds me of an old black and white escape movie, where choices have been made and the outcome
will be the same, but just on another day...

What choices! Life/death in a cell, or Life/death on the run...and a bit of freedom. Can't imagine myself in that situation, but you sure do have me thinking! Challenging poem, Jon!
