Defeats' Boots

The game of life is yours to play.

I'll not acquiesce nor be scorned

defeats' boots I'll not lick

for I am the croupier of my fate

life's spins are many

each one I will play straight up

there will be no street bets

to red or black across the rack

my spin of the wheel

will see the ball of fate

landed exactly where it need be

wagers ebb and flow

the wheel does not relent

step forwrd and wager well

trust not in where the ball last fell

for it is always, pell-mell

like the kiss of a lady from hell

listen up, as the ball prattles

along the path to glory or bust

but I'll not give up this lust

I'll not give up this quest

defeats' boots I'll not lick

for I am still my own crupier

master of the wheel I play

though in the final spin

the ball never drops into your slot

it was not destined to be

smile, and greet the new croupier

Sometimes it feels to me like life is kicking my ass on purpose.
Like you, I shall not relent.
Knowing my fate is not always,
Heaven sent.
Well done Jon....

The gambling metaphor very well sustained, Jon, and perfectly appropriate, the writing grounded and focused. This is fine work.

Again, a profound well-written message for all to adhere to. Whatever the outcome, we should continue the fight – hang in there - using all the tools God has given us… Blessings, Janice
