A little child smiles
the bravado I wear
is ripped from my back
I stand nude, defenseless
eyes peering in askance
from aged faces
with interlaced lines
their wisdom is revealed
an elephant stands upon my chest
my heart labors in vain
for I know not
the answers they seek
waves lap the shore
of a sandy beach
their rhythm seduces my mind
with tranquilty's opiates
dogmatic human beings
prey upon their defenseless peers
slaughtering them
acrid perspiration
oozes from my every pore
wrongly, I envision justice
vengence at the end of my saber
a poet pens his cryptic rhyme
I'm mesmerized by the semantics
his metaphor
his caring to relate, to share with others
leaves my ego in seismic elation
incredibly rich hues
leap from the canvas of a Monet rendering
I stare, awed by the shear genius of his talents
yet more than these things I find
creation, fascinates, stimulates
like no other human experiences are capable of
the who, what, when, where, how and why
of all that is
leaves my mind babbling incoherently
simplicity satisfies me
complexity
leaves me asking
who am I?
an anachronism it seems

we find who we are in the people around us, essentially in the friendship of others. What I read in this exploration is a talented
and sensitive man I would like to know. Who am I? How many of us really know? I guess there's a lot of Hamlet in each of us.
