Ocassions when we drift, from sensible thought. Humility always the lesson we learn.

My escapes always meet

with a sameness of finality

grapes gently plucked from the vine

in dark bottles having conspired

to see that I am sated

with white zinfandel

moderation gone the way

of a New Years' resolution

shattered against the wall

of promises in hell

once every year or so

stupidity overwhelms all reason

myopic vision portends endless joy

at the bottom of a stemmed glass

my day after face

shows the throbbing in my head

for inane judgement

a dear price I'll pay

impaired vision and queasy gut

and so on this morn of intelligence's defeat

I'll salute my quaking body

with a glass of "plop, plop, fizz, fizz"

and hope for

relief that is quick, merciful

from this overindulgence biz

I haven't had one of those in quite some time but I can remember and I can relate, Jon. Thanks for sharing. Love and peace to you,

At least you didn't wake with the murder weapon in your hand.

Those of us that imbibe occasionally find the vintage especially fine and are entreated to drink the last drop to slake our thirst for a cornucopia of delight.

You word has a power of its own like a fire propelling itself from within. You create a small shining dot at first and around it you build huge walls with the beautiful blocks of imagery. Fantastic. Love your work and as usual I enjoyed reading this.

Ah a case of the ole hangover, Jon, but put so well and intelligence, despite the fragile condition of the pen, hasn't, thankfully, been defeated. Love it!

A Sip Too Far is a write we all should read when we're thinking of just one more. Remembering the day after would be enough for me to put the glass down. LOL and great write. Best wishes, Bonnie

Jon,

Very true and to the point. It's odd that intelligent human beings think that they "deserve" a drink, and messes their whole body up, only for them to go out and do it again!
