A poetic perspective of America's financial crisis.

When, when was the light extinguished

when was this time of recompense, I say

initiated, this deed of unknown origin

long did we forage in the glens of happiness

long did we glut, never shunning the excesses

we deemed those forays as successes

not alternatives with potential consequences

could our sightless minds not envision

now fear has reared its ugly head

reality approached, then immediately arrived

no more shall we thrive in the land

of milk and honey

lest our dues be paid 'til the pain is great

this was not fait

it was not willed to us by higher authority

our lust for excesses contrived the plan

unwittingly we sprung the consequences

upon ourselves

barring access to survey the future

through our failure to learn from the past

greed, lust, cavalier philosophies of men

securing their own demise

laugh now we all

no, no, no, I say no

for now we pay

fools all, immensely, calculatingly unwise

Yea though I say, "Who can save us from this mess"? No one I've seen so far. Like all great civilizations in the past that have come and gone, We may have already reached our peak and are now galloping headlong towards the demise of our once greatness.
Stay safe, my friend.

Fools gold. Our herd instinct gets us all. Funny, I wrote of the same. Had a hot dog the other day and found my Weeny was hollow!

So true, Jon. And so well expressed, as only you can do it.
What we lack, as you indicate, is control. Minus self-control
and the wisdom to go with it, we need a return to some kind of
regulation. -gene.

A most apt and timely write, Jon; and the "disease" is spreading worldwide. Thank you. Love and peace,

Jon, we are the architects of our own demise.
"barring access to survey the future

for every action there is a reaction, & with those reactions there are consequences & pray to the wisdoms at hand that those consequences serve the value of their purposes & repercussions through lessons learned & pave the stones of regret into a new direction....
choices really do matter in a snowball that starts at the top of any mountain, or even what may seem just a mere mole hill...

Sad how we've fallen, and how the rich get richer (greedier) while the poor, elderly, and disabled, well...you know....

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Jon,
excellent theme and perspective and the language and expression to match: "forays as successes" "our lust for excesses" and the brilliant "calculatingly unwise" to round it off with a real bang. Very impressive.
