The fox prowls the moonless nights
seeking prey to savor before daylight
a lone prowler with an insatiable greed
to satisfy a primordial need
in his gut he must put feed
to fuel the next hunt
the cyclical process renews
to the fox, there are no new views
simplistic, basic, his needs
senses honed by the drive to survive
rote skills etched in memory
by countless, previous successes
countless previous failures
an errant path across the tarmac
a cleverly placed snare, here and there
the farmer's shotgun and dog
pitfalls the fox must at all cost, avoid
as it is with the fox
so it is with mankind
no greater peril must he endure
than those posed, by his fellow man
tread the paths lightly
use all the stealth at your command
evade the perils posed by your fellow man
then, may you survive and thrive
longer than the fox will
