Recollections of business trips past.

February's biting cold beckoned

Hamilton was urging me

my annual business migration

Buffalo's airport, uninviting

bitter with arctic cold

over the Peace Bridge

Customs would have their say

Niagra, a giant fridge

on the lake, Ontario

houses of ice fishermen

the fare of their itinerate city

Queens Highway my route

offering icy peril and treachery

the escarpments loom

Hamilton coming into view

my hosts offer me a warm greeting

old friends by now

years on

we've done this routine

in the factory we'd meet

of contracts our talk

equipment inspections

technical specifications

the remaining lot

the Royal Connaught

my quarters for the week

blue collar and quaint

that fine little city

just once

I'd have preferred a chance

to have my Hamilton affair

when the heat of July was on the air

flowers bloomimg everywhere

Ontario's  waters flowing

not a block of ice

and yet

a winter Hamilton affair

was still filled

with a friendly air

Descriptions of COLD beauty!

Drove to Hamilton one hot July, picking up a Bangladeshi uncle and sister for a friend with a single entry student visa. Watched a black squirrel play while I waited. He told me the fish--a carp--was fresh--purchased that morning. The sister had scarring where she had been flown from Dacca to Seattle for surgery.

We ate the fish--quite tasty-- in a park by the Falls, and then I drove them back. We spent the late afternoon and evening driving back to West Virginia in the heat. He is currently Dean of Science and Technology at Kent State. His uncle would be proud.

Ron

PS... I sense a lady here. Once drove to near Pittsburgh in a huge snowstorm for a lady. It was worth it.

Depending on the wind, the ice from Niagra's mist can cover three blocks.....Brrrrrr

There's something bleak and strange about a winter passage...maybe its the snow and low skies...no home ever felt so far away...Great read Jon

I live in Canada and I've traveled all over Europe but I've never been to Ontario. You make me think I'm missing something. Thank you, Jon. Love and peace,

Regis

Jon, how beautiful you express your thoughts in this piece. I could see all that you talk about as your vision is so clear...

Hamilton is a wonderful place, as is Canada: went to Niagara Falls in 1975. What still strikes me, years later, is how clean it was, and how friendly her people. A wonderful write, well done. *check title*

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

This was really nice of you to come to Canada and I'm glad that you were well received and entertained, even though it was a business trip.

An enjoyable piece!!!

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
