Romance, a journey that not always ends where we wish.

I'll look no more for the embrace

held in the suspense of a night air

gathered about me, lament's crush

on this night of a thousand nights

lapsing with disappointment into eternity's grip

as did its predecessors

the promise of romance, gone unfulfilled

my heart beats in decaying hope

this trail I've traversed too long

no song of love, no serenade

could have longer endured

the shadows of your ambiguousness

that served to thwart my love

reaching beyond the means of probability

as I make my leave and goodnights

make no kiss upon my cheek

to further insult the course

my confused soul measures with mistrust

this last goodbye, the terminus

for the journey of this fool

shall not repeat steps

into the quagmire

of disappointment and regrets

feast with trepidation in the triumph

of this, my final adieu

Once hurt, it's hard to trust. I like how the voice in this poem seems to have the upper hand at the conclusion; he chooses to say goodbye. Hugs,
Sheila

oh my...I Love How You Weave Your Words of Deep Emotions
This Is Exceptional In the Heart of Love
But alas...listen...there in the distant I hear the calling of your name
it is the devote destiny of your passage
the new awareness of Love's gifts
ensouled by the carriage of promises....
Much Love & Inspirations

The most painful step is that step away and with all the choices we make...we step away too many times...life should be grander...it should allow for so much more....Great read Jon

When the path of love reaches a fork in the road and each chooses a different direction it is a sad, heart-breaking end to what once was a beautiful journey...written with rich emotions and a sad goodbye

This one is powerfully penned, Jon. Such sadness in these lines! Don't think yourself as unloved: I love you, and what your words have to say. Well done.

Jon,
I sincerely hope this is muse and not fully personal or 'true intimate'; whichever, it's beautifully expressed, rich in thought, process and language.

The tragic ending to the expected outcome of a one-sided relationship. Why do we waste so much time building our ship of fools?

Revealing.
