A favorite subject from an insomniac. Cannot sleep so I will write dark poetry.

in bated breath blue words of night
whisper tales in tongues foreign
sorrow and dismay meld into confusion
in this intimacy of an order unknown
nightingales sing in the voices of ravens
a procession of mutant figures in black
weep into pools of unwavering sorrows
from wide eyes of alabaster and crimson
solace to embrace my pounding heart
flees into the vast spoils like a vagrant
what coward is this calling in the night
defenses to stave off the vicious attacks
I am unable to summon from the quiet
of this alien nocturnal world I roam
peace and solace my original destinations
master of the world of the unconscious
detours me into the basin of oblivion
gasping and gripped in fear and trauma
reprieve startles me into conscious escape
will providence not lead me to a sanctum

where the cowardly attack me not at will
where are the nights when dreams were
fields of gold and solace, blue birds singing
in the voices of love and understanding

I like the feeling of longing towards the end, Jon. I like how you let your pen take you where it may. Hugs,

You sure curled the wrinkles here my friend, you been reading our minds have you? Happy Holy Days! Jasmin Horst

Such a troubling piece trembling to the core as life sometimes becomes more clear in the dead of night...

IT MUST BE A POET'S CURSE FOR I HAVE MET SO MANY WRITERS AND POETS AND WE ALL SEEM TO HAVE THAT IN COMMON...GREAT WRITING COMES IN OUR MOST WEARY HOURS.

The Wee Hours Muse is upon thee, Jon, and she inspires well. You wax eloquent and deep, searching and mining...yes, I'm with you in the damp, clinging air...particularly impressed by the visuals, this poem resonates.

Jon, I've been in search of those nights for so long
I can't remember the last time I had a proper night's sleep.
But I'm delighted to see that you turn your sleepless nights
into brilliant poetry.

With you all the way, Jon. You have done a wonderful job of expressing
what many of us feel as we lie awake at night wondering what tomorrow
will bring. May your tomorrow bring pleasant surprises, and may the day that follows prove even better. With gratitude, respect, and
affection, 'Pea'

Sleep is overated anyway.
As long as it's dark,
may as well follow suit.
Happy Holidays.....

I fear hospital stays, as necessary as they are at times because I have never been able to sleep more than a few hours each night I'm there and it takes my system weeks to recover when I get out. Hope the sandman visits you soon and lets you get a good nights sleep. Great poem on how one feels left to their thoughts without sleep.
