The birthing place of poetry?

the sanctum serves this quill

an appendage right for the scroll

lusting into sleepless nights

for an attack of creative rushes

poetic hierarchy knows that haunt

evasive and imbued with illusions

lyrical perfection dwells there

vaunted poets know the path

and know too its unrelenting wrath

unfit and misunderstood poems

litter every foot of the way

ecstasy awaits the call to scribe

lucidity eludes twisted rhyme

be ever vigilant for the call

this sanctum favors no poet

readily admonishing all who fail

acceptance is granted only

by determination's successes

reach deeply into the heart

of pained failure for a start

Kate probably has said it best Jon although all for the others before me have also said what can be said. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

writing indeed starts from "a place of disturbance" for good or bad. When ideas are shaken and stirred, it takes a while for their dust to settle into a discernible pattern, perhaps - like the swirling within a snow-globe. It is always an endless fascination to me that the same ideas might present themselves differently or within a completely different perspective or framework - sometimes within minutes. The blood-rush of images is the easy part... the laying them down somewhat more difficult. Like brain cells, so many are lost at conception or through perinatal birth! Written in the style and diction of a true scribe - and one who has known many crossings-out, perhaps! Writing, I have been told, is all about re-writing... which is probably where I get stuck! :)) xx

You tell it well - the ups and mostly downs. Yet we remain dedicated to our expression. Happy new year:)

Yes the heart is where it starts and finishes and it shouldn't be difficult, should it? Beautiful and thought provoking pen Jon.

Very cool- I love how you did this, the battle of writing that we all go through every day, but with some excellent descriptive words, very, very cool (a great compliment, lol) :) xxMichelle

Pained failure is often the source of muse, as is spring fever. You have illuminated the tortured path of poetry in this wise little piece. Enjoyed.

Words that expose, and explain but also excise the poetic nature of all who chose to bare their souls as bards.

love labors ever vast space
these birthing palaces of poetry
your words take us there into the deep chambers
the bedlam of nuances...delectaions dancing
climactic expressions...

"readily admonishing all who fail..."
reaching deeply into the heart, indeed,

(For sure: life is a series of pained failures we must ever forgive, and go on.)

Nicely put. Happy New Year!

Jon,

Great poem. Sounds like every writer's beginning of joy and heartbreak.
