In that far away place of the imagination before sleep finally overtakes us,we live in half dreams and half truths. This is how that time appears to me.

Shostakovitch' second waltz wends dreamy

altering moods in my transient thoughts

self assessing, the purge runs deep in emotions

the melody hypnotic, suggestive, romantic

opulent with sensitivity overwhelming my need

the barons of fated decisions duel with ferocity

only the impudent dare not heed the tea leaves

mortal flesh, chilled to stone with calls beyond

the ferocity of the legendary hounds baying

annually on five July at Dartmore on Devon

emotions of ancient pull envelope me, a corona

seeking revenge comprehension fathoms not

sleep, sleep, sleep nestled in the breast of time

be it eternal or nocturnal I'll know not 'til morn

ever mindful, no journey compels me more

I don't know how I missed this splendid offering Jon Michael...you have created a magical place to wander just before slumber claims you. Most intriguing imagery my friend.

...and that second waltz is dreamy, just the right word for it...and the capture of those moments between waking and sleeping, the half eye, the incomplete thought, the drifting, shifting mind like sand dunes ruffled by the wind...and then the exploration of the nature of sleep itself, "eternal or nocturnal"...no, we don't know "'til morn"

This is a gorgeous poem, Jon, delivered with eloquence.

If you dream, you sleep. From the poem, I gather that the hounds of hell are after you in your dreams, forcing you to try to stay awake... whew!

Great feel of exploration in this poem, Jon. We do experience things through dream, and those things are every bit as complicated as reality. Also, you are spot on, mood-wise. Hugs,
Sheila

I like the language style and diction choice you have made for this 'tween-times state, Jon: lulling and lyrical. And I love the strong ending which is indeed expansive yet conclusive. Of such is endless fascination and allure. xx

Still reverberating are the canons inside the chaos of Shostakovitch's The Nose, like being surrounded by dancing Dervishes in trance!

You need Brahms lullaby instead my friend, the ending lines are resonant with what you might feel. I enjoyed your near nirvana trip into the twilight zone. Bless You! Jasmin Horst

It is almost (at least it seems so to me) as though you are sharing visions or memories from another life/dimension, Jon. Nicely done. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Regis
