In the shadows of autumn winter awaits its attack on the earth.

repose

a callous November raped the trees of leaf

naked limbs waves not orange or green hue

low light now plays lazy on splayed chilled bark

forested fir nor oak dare to play submissive

when the whims of hoar frost grip and propose

the magistrate of nature's sentence, long slumber

rose and daisy lay plundered by north winds

hail barraged vulnerable flora and creatures alike

a death masquerade of barren expression clings

breath of the unrelenting witch of the north

hushes the landscape in raw uncultured dress

repose all ‘til spring kisses your lips with revival

Jon, your ability to meld and mold words brings out a jealousy I never imagined existed within me. Well done, indeed.

I rarely comment on so many of the same poet’s works, especially one right after the other, but I'm a new fan and I'm just beginning to catch up.

Thanks Dick

A dark portrait of cold and want but still ending with hope, so well penned.

Jon,
You keep getting better and better. I love the descriptions in this poem. It's harder for poets to come up with original imagery for the many faces of nature, but you've done it. I especially like the first verse. Excellent!

We watch as the steps...march on bye.

We, like the sun find our reasons...walking on bye.

Always a pleasure Jon.

I wrote this for you Jon

"
I never felt secure, except
in the winds

that blew up around me

a life, that gave me

a reason to reach out and hold onto

a world of turbulence
...and the color, that screamed out

onto me
"

Jon I reached out and held on

You don't hold back or flinch, Jon, My Friend, this is how it happens over and over, the cycle is in one sense cruel but without it there is no renewal. Without death there is no new birth; without birth, there is no death..
but apart from the cycle and the thought processes inherent, there is the writing - they're not separate of course, they're intertwined - and the writing is top drawer, the images pared to maximum impact and resonance. This is just so right.

Jon is it just me? Or is this
aggressive...assertive...commanding
and seductively taken?
Well I am...be it me or not...

You're blamin Sarah Palin for all this, Wow, and I thought I had it in for her, but dear, oh dear, she's worse than I thought, I fear.
Well in any case it's sort of frost on the pumkin, we got's lots of that there sort of cold breezes and all. Now to your poem, it reaches right down to the bone,(yeah that one) raw, and stinging the nerves of heart and mind, great one Jon!!!!!!!! Bless ya! Jasmin Horst

Always a pleasure to read your inspired writings. My roses hold out until the first hard freeze, as well as my Petunia's and Marigold's. There is a chill in the air but no sign of our cold Winter as yet. Hope I'll see that next Spring with you and your delightful poetry.

This is a theme that is very close to my heart and one that has inspired many of my verses as well, Jon. I love the personification here and the entire offering. Thank you, friend. Love, peace, and best wishes,

Regis
