the storm

Summmer will not be denied the rush of nature's fury.

the storm

live oak measure the wind’s demeanor
rustle and swish sassy in arcing flounce
weeping willows wear animated grass skirts

the big bluster advancing has angry designs
black clouds trimmed in khaki bode ominous
the grip of hush is intense with natural rage

the pong of wrath prickles the flesh anxious
ancient dynamisms rumble across the night air
rage approaches and fear furnishes the wind

cowards are ambushed with the sheeting rains
their sack of tricks shrunken in lightning bolts
a barrage of hail and on bended knees prayers

appeasement and sacrificial gestures ineffectual
thunder explodes and cover from banshee’s rage
occupies the willful thoughts of sodden flesh

There is nothing like a summer storm and you captured it all Jon Michael...my favorite part is the thunder and lighting show
love to you dear friend, Carole~

Hi Jon… well, I see you're still at it my friend... your artistry has intensified; I love this… the storm – depicting nature’s reaction and her many roles during the rage… Superbly written!! … it's been a while, but I shall never completely abandon this love of my life... scripting my innermost feelings and thoughts. Though this job may try to pull me away, it shall never prevail. For I will forever return; and I love this platform filled with so many amazing people who share the same sentiment. I’m back!  Janice Beaty Springs

THE STORM...DESCRIBED WITH AN ARTISTIC VIVIDNESS THAT ENABLES THE READER TO 'FEEL' THE FURY OF ITS POUNDING, INSIDE AND OUT, LEADS ONE TO DO THE ONLY THING THEY CAN DO...'PRAY' FOR THE ITS SOON PASSING. VERY, VERY WELL DONE AND ENJOYED. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL POET, JON, THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...

I really like the stripped-back phrasing you employ to enforce the power of the images you seek to convey, Jon. I use similar words in an altogether softer vein in my upcoming Thomas Hardy idyll, so I am particularly alive to the effectiveness with which you convey this altogether more hostile mood. Wishing you safe shelter from this spiky storm, my friend. Your words beat upon us powerfully here. xx

I love the superb imagery that you have chosen and expressed through your verses here, Jon. It is truly effective in describing the fury of the storm. So well done my friend. Love and peace to you,

Excellent imagery, Jon. I really do love storms, though I know they can be dangerous. Hugs,

We have no defence against this majesty,
this "natural rage"...the sense of vengeance
is palpable in your words, Jon, My Friend,...are we
deserving of all we get? i feel we are for
we've brought it upon ourselves and no
"appeasement and sacrificial gestures" will save us.
The writing is of a high order here, driving
the message home eloquently.
Kudos!

So terrorizing are the storms
You sooooooooo aptly describe
followed by uprooted trees on
power lines...then loss of
power and lives with anger
and despair setting in!

~Jon~

Awareness of our fears so evident
in your writing of soul matters..
as we hear storm of the century
being broadcast on the news!!

The similes are flying here. Describing one of nature's most beneficial, yet horrifying, events, you have captured a thunderstorm's essence with your forceful words. Much enjoyed as I scurried for cover.

John, your words have an unearthly beauty!
Remarkably mesmerizing use of sonic elements throughout, too!
I awoke to a great storm this morning. I'm dragging in this heat, just wilting.
Blessings,
Christine

I hear the thunder, your poem is explosive in descriptions, each line riveting, "a barrage of hail and on bended knees prayers" this is a great visual. (July 1st I drove into a tornado..it was the most scariest thing, trees uprooting, signs flying, telephone lines falling, I thought it was the last of my day here, but somehow got out of it (Danbury Wisconsin)
Blessings,
Christine
