like a chameleon
i’m a chameleon lifeless in winter’s white
in summer’s warmth I glowed love’s pink
for when first I saw you, I first loved you
poems of intrigue and beguile in your eyes
only the radiant pictures in my mind
do I have to keep me warm as winter snips
the bouquet of you away from the heart of me
far across the way… apart I’m forced to stay
oh the nights are long and it’s with you I belong
will the magic of possibilities send you my way
like a chameleon in winter I’m forced to conceal
what this aching heart of me knows is real
destiny is the hunter who holds my mastery
far across the way…apart I’m forced to stay
white sands and moonlight arm in arm call
with you I’d stand… a man prideful and tall
i’m a chameleon dead in winter’s white
for when i first saw you I first loved you
poems of intrigue and beguile in your eyes
oh the nights are lonely and you’re not here
This is so beautiful, as usual. But so sad. I love the way you've written this.

deep, the sense of unrequited love stirs
the reader's heart; the chameleon, once love's pink,
now lifeless in white is a stark change and one hard
to accept but there's no holding back in this poem,
there is no compromise - the integrity of the poet
is here from first to last
a fine work, Jon, My Friend, fine indeed
