LIKE A DAFFODIL
My daughter reminded me of a daffodil,
Little blonde, full of life, sunny and bright.
Mixed with other daffodils,
Busy from morning 'til night.
So full of dreams and stars in her eyes.
Shooting for goals as high as the skies.
She still reminds me of a daffodil,
But one left alone in a field.
One not being watered or nurtured,
One in a bottle that's sealed.
No more stars in her eyes,
No brightness at all.
She keeps shrinking and paling in color,
And looks so delicate and small.
The life seems to have gone out of her,
With every passing day.
There's not much happiness left in her,
And she hasn't much to say.
I miss my little daffodil,
That I nurtured for awhile.
I miss her love life attitude,
I miss her cheery smile.
But since she's a wife and mommy now,
And taken care of by another.
It's not my cultivating she needs now,
I'm only just her mother.
I too was like that daffodil,
That wasn't watered in a long, long while.
I have felt the same loneliness,
And I too sometimes find it hard to smile.
So I can see and understand,
This loneliness that she feels.
I keep wondering without water,
How long we'll be daffodils.
