ONE BRICK TORN AWAY

When someone has hurt you, there's only one thing to do.

That's to build a wall, so the pain can't get through.

I have built such a wall, it's as thick as steel.

So I wouldn't get hurt, and I couldn't feel.

The first thing I noticed, the day I met you.

Was that you too built a wall, and I suddenly knew.

That you were hurting just like me.

I wanted to reach out to you, to make your pain flee.

Our friendship started to grow that day.

With the walls coming down, one brick torn away.

Breaking through the barriers, that no one has done before.

Made our friendship special, so precious and pure.

You've opened my heart and made my life worth living,

With all your cheerful ways and special way of giving.

I learned to trust and dream again, which has truly been a while.

Throughout my days when I think of you, it will be with a trusting smile.

That  extra mile we have traveled, to make this friendship grow.

Will always light the days ahead, when we are feeling low.

Something I have learned through this is not to build those walls.

I may have missed out in meeting you, never to have known this joy at all.
